OUR STORY
Yellow Spruce Roasters was inspired by the places that shaped us.
Our story stretches from Colorado’s pine forests to Arizona’s sunny desert. Our travels, both in service and leisure, inspire everything we do. Our logo, a simple spruce twig in yellow and green, reflects the landscapes we love and the journey that brought us here.
As veterans, we value patriotism and community. Coffee has always brought people together, and at Yellow Spruce we carry that forward by serving our community and creating connections one cup at a time.
Our History
Brian Fernandez purchased his first roaster in 2018 and began experimenting with small-batch coffee in his cottage roastery, spending countless hours perfecting what would become our signature blends and single-origin roasts. That dedication to craft laid the foundation for Yellow Spruce Roasters, officially founded in 2019 with one goal: to bring quality coffee to every cup.
What began as a small roasting operation quickly grew into something more. In September 2020, we opened our first storefront in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, a cozy space where locals and visitors could connect over freshly roasted coffee. By October 2023, we expanded that space with an adjoining wine bar, introducing local Arizona wines, craft beers, and our signature espresso martinis. In August 2024, we opened our second location inside the Civic Center Library café space, allowing us to serve a new corner of the community.
Today, our same passion for great coffee continues to fuel our growth with a thriving wholesale program and a new roastery in North Scottsdale. And for those beyond Arizona, our coffees are available online, so you can enjoy the taste of Yellow Spruce anywhere in the continental U.S.

Meet Our Founder
Brian Fernandez is a retired military veteran having served 23 years in the United States Air Force (active-duty and reserves) and a retired police officer for a major metropolitan police department. His military experience has afforded him the opportunity to travel all over the world and experience various coffee flavors. His law enforcement experience has shown him the importance of community how coffee brings people together both locally and internationally.
Whether experiencing coffee overseas or to get through a late-night patrol, our founder believes in the entire coffee experience from seed to cup. His vision is to bring these experiences to Yellow Spruce customers. He has a deep passion for coffee and community, which is paramount to the quest to bring each customer quality coffee.
